Jennifer Harge is an artist based in Detroit, MI. Her work centers Black and queer vernacular movement practices, codes, and rituals that manifest at the intersections of performance, installation, and community gathering. In 2014, she founded Harge Dance Stories as a container for choreographic research. Harge is the 2023 Alma Hawkins Visiting Chair at UCLA World Arts and Culture/Dance, 2021 Wexner Center for Arts Artist Residency awardee, 2019 Dance/USA Artist Fellow, and 2019 Eva Yaa Asantewaa Queer|Art awardee. Her work has also been recognized by various organizations in the form of grant support, fellowships, performance and residency invitations, including: Sidewalk Detroit, Daring Dances, EXPLODE! Queer Dance Festival, Yaddo, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, The Philadelphia Thing, Contemporary&, AUNTS, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Knight Foundation, Kresge Foundation, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and others.
Devin Drake is a multimedia artist, designer, and documentarian originally from Saginaw, MI. Currently living, working, and making in Detroit, MI, her work focuses on the beauty and simplicity of communication through design and visual documentation. Using a variety of mediums including film, photography, illustration, drawing, painting, graphic design, web design and development, she prioritizes care and emotional registers in the execution of her work. Drake has spent the last five years as the resident performance documentarian for Detroit-based movement collective, Harge Dance Stories. In this role, her focus is on the transference of movement and choreographic research into digital storytelling. She has worked in this role for other performance and visual artists in Detroit, serving as a participatory and essential witness to the work of other creatives. Her practice is also informed by her fourteen year career as a design and web developer for corporations and institutions including advertising agencies, marketing collectives, and institutions of higher education.
